Description

Cardwell’s Penstemon (Penstemon cardwellii): is a woody stemmed plant that grows 4-12 inches tall with purple flowers in early summer. It spreads by layering and may form thick mats. Cardwell’s penstemon grows in full sun to light shade, and wants well-drained, moist to dry soils. Bright purple flowers add contrast to rock gardens or dry beds and it is attractive year-round. Hummingbirds and bumblebees are attracted to the flowers. $20 for a bundle of 5 bare root seedlings. More information at the Burke Herbarium.
